December 2013 Contest Ideas

Share this:

The holidays are coming and December’s prize is going to be big.  Well, roughly $50 big.  The poll is below, please give me your ideas for the perfect prize for December.  Some of the answers are Apple related and if you have an Android, Windows, etc. (non-Apple device), your opinion matters and I will adjust the prize accordingly.  For example, the prize could be either an iTunes or Google play or Windows phone store, etc.  This poll will end November 1, 2013 at 12am.

Quick iPad Update

Also, the iPad-focused Apple event is scheduled for October 22 (as confirmed by AllThingsD and Jim Dalrymple).  This event will roll-out a new Retina iPad mini, a slimmer iPad 5 and potentially OS X Mavericks and the new Mac Pro (that are coming Fall 2013).  Apple has not confirmed this and they won’t until roughly a week prior to the event.  We should see the invitations for the event sometime between October 14 and October 16.

The EverDock: Updated

Share this:

The EverDock, found on Kickstarter has seen amazing success in their goal to reach $50,000.  The project went live on September 17th, 2013 with the plan to reach their goal amount by October 17th.  I believe they reached their goal in a little over 24 hours.  This project is currently at $319,025 with 3,377 backers and 9 days left.  Their first pledge was $39 for the EverDock in natural aluminum color (silver) with a silicone protector, a micro-USB cable and 2 cable adapters.  This pledge sold out first.  The next pledge is starts at $49 and continues up to $299.  As will all Kickstart projects, if you pledge money, it doesn’t mean you are getting the product.  It is all determined whether the project gets all the funding it needs.  But, as I said above, EverDock has all their funding and you will be getting one if you pledge.  If you missed out on the $39 one, I was lucky enough to pledge and I will be giving mine away to anyone who tweets or shares this post (more details in bold at the bottom).

WSJ Confirms Fingerprint Sensor for iPhone 5S

Share this:

It is the morning of Apple’s second media event of the year (the first was WWDC back in June) and leaks are still coming out. Over the course of last night, the fingerprint scanner was confirmed to be true by two sources. First, the Wall Street Journal confirmed with people familiar with Apple’s plans that a fingerprint scanner would be on the iPhone 5S, but not the iPhone 5C.

Danny Yadron, the journalist, wrote this;
“Placing a finger on a computer or smartphone has long been proposed as a way to avoid the need for passwords to authenticate users of computers and other devices. People familiar with the matter said last week that Apple will include a fingerprint scanner on the more expensive of two iPhones it is expected to unveil Tuesday at an event at its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters.”

The other source claiming the fingerprint scanner is real is an alleged user guide (finally in English) for the iPhone 5S. It shows the iPhone 5S running iOS 7 with a ring around the Home button and a blurb indicating that it is the Home button/Touch ID. Apple is expected, based primarily on this, to call the new fingerprint sensor the “Touch ID”.

Apple is expected to reveal two new iPhones (the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C), a software update for the Apple TV and the release date for iOS 7. Based on the blackout vacation days at Apple and AT&T, Apple is expected to release the iPhones on September 20. Also, iOS 7 is expected to be released on September 18, if history is likely to repeat itself (and for Apple, it usually does).
