MacFan, a Japanese magazine, posted the sketches below of the iPhone 6.  These pictures show two different-sized smartphones, which aligns with the rumor that Apple is working on releasing two models.  The first one is expected to have a 4.7-inch display and the second one, a 5.5-inch display.  According to the images, the devices will be slimmer, flat and bezel-free with a single LED flash and protruding camera (like found on the iPod touch).

These pictures inspired Nowhereelse.fr, a French Apple blog, and Martin Hajek, a graphic designer, to work together and design a very realistic concept for the iPhone 6.  If the leaked image above is actually for the iPhone 6, the concept below is likely to be what the iPhone 6 will look like.  These designs show an iPhone with rounded corners, a sapphire glass back and a rocker-style volume button.

Case Mold for iPhone 6 Leaked

Potential mold for iPhone 6

A Japanese case maker’s blog recently uploaded the image below, saying that it is the case mold for the iPhone 6.  There is no way to say whether it is really a mold for cases or not, but it does give us perspective on what the next generation iPhone will look like (and it fits in with the rumors).  The display is larger compared to the iPhone 5s, the bezels are thinner and should still be comfortable enough to hold in one hand.  The iPhone 6 is rumored to have a higher resolution display, a much faster A8 processor, an 8MP camera and a thickness of .22 inches.

iPad: Latest Rumors

Credit: iMore
Share this:

This past couple of weeks I have written posts about the iPhone 6 and iOS 8, but now it is time for the iPad.  Some rumors came up this week about the 12.9″ iPad (code named iPad pro) and third generation iPad mini won’t be launching until 2015 and the iPad air will have some iPhone 5s improvements.  At this point in time, there are not many rumors for the next generation iPads because they usually don’t launch until October.  With that said, here’s a quick guide to what we know so far about the iPad air, iPad mini and iPad pro.

iPad air 2

This iPad, for those of you who are keeping track, is the iPad 6 (or the sixth generation iPad.)  The redesign of the iPad 5 came with the new name “air” which relates to the lightness and thinness of it.  There’s a lack of rumors for the new iPads, so many of the points will be educated guesses based on Apple’s history.

  • A8 Processor, which is the same processor that will be found in the iPhone 6 (KGI Securities)
  • Touch ID, found on the iPhone 5s (KGI Securities)
  • Similar design
  • Improved internal components
  • Better camera (higher than 5MP)
  • Release date: October 2014, some rumors suggest April or June at WWDC

iPad mini 3

iPad mini with Retina display

iPad mini with Retina display

This will be the third generation iPad mini, but the second one to feature a Retina display.

  • Release date: 2015 (KGI Securities)
  • Touch ID
  • They predict the release date won’t be until 2015 because the iPad mini currently has updated internal components (A7 chip and Retina display) and can survive another year.
  • This reminds me of a rumor saying the iPad mini 2 (the current generation) wouldn’t come out until 2014…but the rumor wasn’t true since it came out in October.

This 12.9″ rumored iPad will be aimed at the education market, business market and at developers creating apps for the iPad.  The larger display will be a hybrid between the laptop and a tablet.  Here are some of the latest rumors:

  • Quad-core A8 Processor, available in 128GB size, arriving in Fall 2014 (Patrick Wang of Evercore Partners)
  • Arriving in 2015 because Apple is busy working on the iWatch (KGI Securities)
  • 64-bit computing with an UHD (ultra-high definition) display (Korea Times)
  • Touch ID, 64-bit A7 or A8 chip (TechRadar)
  • Arriving with late spring/winter or October 2014 release, 2 models (2K display launching in April 2014 and 4K display launching in October) (Pad News)

The iPad Air (the fifth generation iPad) was announced at Apple’s October 22 Event.  In addition to a brand new design for the full-sized iPad (mostly taken from the iPad mini), Apple updated its internal components.  This iPad will be available for purchase starting November 1.  Here’s a breakdown of the new iPad Air with features, tech specs and what’s included along with rumors for future iPads.

September 10th Event: One Week Later

Share this:

It has officially been a week since Apple has revealed their new iPhones.  We saw the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C be announced, but some other products came out too, but were left unannounced.  Here’s the recap:

iPhone 5C: the mid-tier iPhone 5 in multiple colors

hero_mba_11

Apple usually decreases the price of the previous generation iPhone when they release a new one.  In theory, Apple should have brought the iPhone 5 to $99, the iPhone 4S to $0 and the new iPhone 5S was starting at $199.  However, they switched things up and discontinued the iPhone 5 in favor of the updated iPhone 5C, which is available in multiple colors.  It has similar specifications to the iPhone 5, like camera (back: 8MP, front: 1.2MP), A6 processor, LED flash, panorama, etc., but it is also a little heavier (lighter than the iPhone 4S), has a polycarbonate (plastic) back, slightly larger and bulkier and a battery battery.  This iPhone starts at $99 for the 16GB model on contract.

iPhone 5S: the best iPhone 5 ever

compare_iphone5s

This iPhone was highly expected because Apple always announces a new numbered iPhone (ex: iPhone 4, iPhone 5) and a year later, they announce an updated model with the “S” attached (ex: iPhone 4S, iPhone 5S).  This model has improved specifications and always includes some extraordinary, like the iPhone 3GS had a video camera, iPhone 4S had Siri and now the iPhone 5S has TouchID (fingerprint scanner).  This iPhone is the same size and weight or the iPhone 5, it has an improved battery, a new A7 processor with a separate M7 motion tracking processor, the ability to take slow motion videos, a dual LED flash and TouchID.  This iPhone starts at $199 and comes in Black/Space Gray, White/Gold and White/Silver.

iPods: the silent color update

The iPods were silently updated to include Apple’s new Space Gray color.  The specifications remain the same, but this new color is now available.  Since Apple decided to quietly update the old models with Space Gray, this suggests they will not be updating the iPods anytime soon.  Although the iPod Classic has not been updated since 2009, it is still available in two colors.

If you noticed any other updates to iDevices, leave a comment below.

Finally, don’t forget iOS 7 is coming out tomorrow.  Based on Apple’s history, they usually release the new operating system sometime between 9:30am and 10:30am PST or 1:30pm and 2:30pm EST.  Make sure you back up your iDevice before you update.

WSJ Confirms Fingerprint Sensor for iPhone 5S

Share this:

It is the morning of Apple’s second media event of the year (the first was WWDC back in June) and leaks are still coming out. Over the course of last night, the fingerprint scanner was confirmed to be true by two sources. First, the Wall Street Journal confirmed with people familiar with Apple’s plans that a fingerprint scanner would be on the iPhone 5S, but not the iPhone 5C.

Danny Yadron, the journalist, wrote this;
“Placing a finger on a computer or smartphone has long been proposed as a way to avoid the need for passwords to authenticate users of computers and other devices. People familiar with the matter said last week that Apple will include a fingerprint scanner on the more expensive of two iPhones it is expected to unveil Tuesday at an event at its Cupertino, Calif., headquarters.”

The other source claiming the fingerprint scanner is real is an alleged user guide (finally in English) for the iPhone 5S. It shows the iPhone 5S running iOS 7 with a ring around the Home button and a blurb indicating that it is the Home button/Touch ID. Apple is expected, based primarily on this, to call the new fingerprint sensor the “Touch ID”.

Apple is expected to reveal two new iPhones (the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C), a software update for the Apple TV and the release date for iOS 7. Based on the blackout vacation days at Apple and AT&T, Apple is expected to release the iPhones on September 20. Also, iOS 7 is expected to be released on September 18, if history is likely to repeat itself (and for Apple, it usually does).

iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C Tech Specs

Share this:

UPDATE: 3:00pm, September 10: The tech specs below have been updated to the beautiful new iPhones that Apple has announced at their event earlier today.  This post will be moved relatively soon to a new page featuring iPhone and iPad comparisons.  Until then, see the specs below. Also, if you tweet or share this post, it will still count as 2x the number of entries.

It is less than 24 hours until Tim Cook comes on stage at Town Hall at Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, California to talk about what Apple has done this past year; iOS 7 and of course, two new iPhones.  Apple is expected to announce a release date for iOS 7 (probably September 18th if history tells us anything about past Apple’s iOS releases), the iPhone 5S (the successor to the iPhone 5), the iPhone 5C (a new inexpensive iPhone unlike anything we are used to) and potentially a software update to the Apple TV.  Recently, a rumor came out saying that the new iPad 5 and iPad mini could be announced too, but it is highly unlikely Apple will announce four major products on the same day.

The tech specs of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C are shown below in the style Apple lists tech specs based completely on rumors.  We won’t know for sure about any of the specs until Apple officially announces them tomorrow.  To compare, the iPhone 5 tech specs are also listed.  This blog post should be updated again tomorrow or Wednesday with the legit specs that Apple gives us.

More Evidence Released for iPhone 5S

The iPhone 5S/5C event is only two days away! And, as expected, more photos of the iDevices are showing up online.  The iPhone 5S is rumored to feature a fingerprint scanner on the Home button and to help confirm this, Patently Apple discovered an European patent concerning a Home button with a sensor ring around it.  This picture, shown below, looks a lot like the Home button that we saw earlier on the iPhone 5S retail packaging.   Patently Apple believes it is a sensor ring surround the Home button with the ability to detect a user’s fingerprint without them actually hitting the Home button.

After the September 10th event in the United States, Apple has planned a separate event in China on the 11th.  Apple is expected to reveal the same two iPhones in China, which is the first time they have held a separate event in another country!  Apple is said to have just made a deal with China’s largest carrier.  The iPhone in the picture below has CCC marks on the back, which are like our FCC mark in the United States.  The CCC and FCC marks are mandatory safety marks to show the device has undergone testing to make sure it is safe to use and that it will not interfere with government and emergency systems (iDownloadBlog).
