Apple Revolutionizes the Computer

It is 1984 and Apple announces a new product that will blow your mind about what you think you know about computers.  (Remember, I wasn’t born yet so I missed this).  The Mac was announced at a special event to analysts, employees and the press in the Fall of 1983.  There was an advertisement during the January Super Bowl that changed what we thought we knew.  Then on January 30, Steve and specific employees (Bill Atkinson, Steve Capps, Steve Wozniak and others) met on stage to show the Mac to the public at a meeting for the Boston Computer Society (BCS).

Here’s the link to watch the video from 1984 that has been hidden until now: Apple Announces the Mac.  The video comes from TIME.  In case you missed the famous Super Bowl ad for the Mac, check it out below. Finally, tell Apple about your first Mac and be part of the Mac story.

This blog primarily focuses on iDevices and less on computers; however, the Mac turned 30 years old so we had to celebrate Apple’s revolutionary product.  A quick mention of iDevices: the iPhone 6 rumors are heating up, Tim Cook had an interview with ABC where he revealed no new products, but talked about NSA and Apple is looking to develop a mobile payment service.

October 22 Event:

Apple’s invitation was released last week showing an apple with transparent leaves and the words: “We still have a lot to cover.”  The event will take place in San Francisco, California at 10am PT. or 1pm EST.  Apple has not yet announced they will be live streaming the event, although they may wait until the last minute to reveal this.  I will not be attending this event and any news I find will be posted on my Twitter.  There are links below to live blogs where they will actually be in attendance for the event.  However, if you live in London, there will be a live stream that will take place at the Kings Place Hall at 6pm GMT.  Finally, if Apple chooses to live stream their event at last minute, check it out here.

iPad 6, 12-inch MacBook and Lower Cost iMac Coming 2014

Share this:

Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, has said that 2014 will be a major product year for Apple. The mostly reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI securities has predicted that some of the new products Tim Cook is talking about include a higher resolution iPad 6, 12-inch Retina MacBook and a less expensive iMac. The iPad 6 will have a greater pixel density, up to 40% more pixels per inch (PPI). It will retain the same 9.7″ display we all know and love. Although rumors recently have pointed to a larger iPad display, a higher resolution model is more likely. In February of 2013, I posted about Apple likely creating a higher pixel density Retina display, code named “Retina HD”. The 12-inch MacBook would likely be released in Summer of 2014 with a Retina display and n brand new design. This MacBook is said to “redefine laptop computing” with its clamshell structure, Intel chip and potentially lower price. Finally, the lower cost iMac should help Apple compete with PC desktop computers and will be released during roughly the same time of the 12-inch MacBook.

This week we expect to see invitations for Apple’s rumored October 22 event where they will introduce a second generation iPad mini, iPad 5, OSX Mavericks and the Mac Pro they have been teasing movie-goers about for months. The iPad mini will have the same form factor, but have a Retina display. The iPad 5 will have a smaller form, like the iPad mini, and will be announced initially with the standard storage sizes along a 128GB model. Rumors have indicated we should see the new iPads in Space Grey, Gold and White. OSX Mavericks was announced at WWDC 2013 and should be out sometime before the end of Fall (December 21). The Mac Pro also will be out before the end of Fall, as said by Apple.
