The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were announced on Wednesday, but they were not the only devices with updates. Apple also refreshed their iPhone and iPad lineup with new prices and better storage capacities.

better storage

The new iPhone lineup has doubled the amount of storage and better pricing across most of the models, via Apple.

For last year’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple has retained all the color options but improved the price and storage capacity. The phones are now available for $100 less for retail price, or roughly $5 less per month with iPhone installments. The iPhone 6s can be purchased for $22/month and the iPhone 6s Plus for $27/month. Additionally, Apple has doubled the minimum storage capacity from 16GB to 32GB and removed the 64GB capacity. The iPhone 6s/6s Plus are still available in 128GB. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have also be removed.

Despite the newness of the iPhone SE, Apple has updated it too. The iPhone SE is still available in 16GB and 64GB, but the larger storage capacity is $50 less. The iPhone SE is now $399 and $449 for full retail price.

Apple has also refreshed their iPad lineup by removing some storage capacities, doubling others, and offering better prices. The iPad mini 2 is now only available in 32GB and starts at the price of the previous 16GB model. The iPad mini 4 is only offered in 32GB and 128GB now and the prices are lowered to the previous 16GB and 64GB models, respectively. The iPad Air 2 has retained the same prices with twice the amount of storage.

Finally, the iPad Pro has had the greatest shakeup in the lineup with storage pricing remaining the same but lower prices. The 128GB model is now $50 less and the 256GB model is $100 less. The prices also show a more consistent lineup with each model progressing by $100 for increased storage. For example, the 9.7″ iPad Pro Wi-Fi only model starts at $599 for 32GB, $699 for 128GB, and $799 for 256GB. Previously there as a difference of $150 between each storage size.

The new storage sizes of the iPad mini 4 and iPad Air 2 currently have an estimate delivery window of September 16-17th.. Also the iPhone 6s with the new 32GB storage size is currently unavailable and will be able to pre-order alongside the iPhone 7 tonight.

Most iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are "In Stock" finally

Share this:

After months of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus being available, Apple has finally caught up with the demand in the United States. The iPhone 6 was released in the middle of September and many users who purchased one had to wait up to four weeks before it was even shipped. When I was able to upgrade in late November, I still had to wait a couple of weeks before my 64GB iPhone 6 Plus would be available to ship.

Introducing the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

Every color of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with every carrier (except the SIM-free models that were released earlier this week) are “In Stock” and ship within 24 hours after Apple receives the order and payment.  The SIM-free models are available to ship in one business day.

Shipping outside the US is still a little behind, but that is very understandable since analysts estimated that Apple sold nearly 70 million iPhones during the fourth quarter.

New iPhone 6 Ad: "Voice Text"

Apple continues with their Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake hosted television commercials by posting another one that displays the iOS 8 feature Voice Text.  This feature allows you to send voice messages to another iPhone user through the Messages app.  As explained in the video, it could be used to say something sarcastically, when you want to sing or when you are using complex words.  Watch the new commercial below.

Apple airs two new iPhone 6 ads: Gamers and Reservations

Share this:

A few days before the official start of the Christmas season, Apple posts two new iPhone 6 ads.  The narrators, like the other commercials we have seen for the iPhone 6, are late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon and singer Justin Timberlake.  They discuss a specific feature of the iPhone in a playful manner. The first one is about gaming and the second is about Continuity.

The first commercial, which is called “Gamers”, focuses on the power of the A8 chip and its gaming abilities.  The application featured is Vainglory.  This game is free on the App Store.

The second commercial, titled “Reservations”, shows off the really cool Continuity feature.  This allows incoming and outgoing phone calls on the iPhone to be answered or started on the iPad and Mac, as long as they are connected to the same iCloud account and running the latest operating systems.

iPhone 6 shipping times improve ahead of Black Friday and Christmas shopping season

Share this:

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have been out for about two months and shipping times are starting to see some improvements.  Once the phones launched, shipping times immediately went from a 2-3 business days to 3-4 weeks.  This made people rethink if they wanted to purchase their new iPhone from Apple and wait nearly a month or take a chance at a physical store location.  Now the shipping times have improved slightly ahead of Black Friday and the Christmas shopping season.

Screen Shot 2014-11-23 at 6.55.57 AM

For the iPhone 6, we see shipping times as little as 5 business days up to 10 business days.  The 16GB iPhone 6 in any color on Verizon, AT&T and Sprint will be available to ship in 5-7 business days; this is the shortest amount of time for shipping via Apple’s online retail store. The 64GB and 128GB model with any carrier and color will take 7-10 business days.

The iPhone 6 Plus, however, is a completely different story.  Either this phone is much more popular, which is unlikely since recent reports suggested the 6 is outselling the 6 Plus 3-to-1, or that Apple doesn’t have enough supply for the demand.  The 16GB iPhone 6 Plus has the shortest amount of shipping time in any color or any carrier with 7-10 business days.  The 64GB iPhone 6 Plus, the one I want, in any color and carrier ships in 2-3 weeks.  Finally, the 128GB iPhone 6 Plus in any color and carrier ships in 3-4 weeks.

If you want to purchase a new iPhone from Apple’s online retail store, you may be waiting a week or up to four weeks.  On Black Friday, many retailers like Best Buy, Walmart and Target will be offering huge discounts on the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus if you want to stand in line, but you will get the phone immediately.  Apple will also be having their own Black Friday sales, but this is usually a modest price decrease.

New iPhone 6 Ads: "Huge", "Camera" and "Actual Sizes"

Share this:

Apple showed us a couple new advertisements for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at their special media event in early September.  They have created a few more, which we have below, that use late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon and popstar Justin Timberlake to talk about the features of the phone.  There’s also a new print ad in the Rolling Stones magazine that shows the actual sizes for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The first ad, which is called “Huge”, focuses on the screen sizes.  These are the most powerful and largest iPhones ever created and Apple emphasizes it several times throughout the video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3uAoeQBpcQ

The second video called “Camera” is all about the camera’s features.  They show some of the iPhone 6 camera features, like slow-motion and image stabilization, and the iOS 8 camera updates, like time-lapse and smart editing tools.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdbggN5XB0Y

The print ad, discovered by Mac Observer, has the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus side-by-side.  The iPhone 6 has a 4.7″ display and the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5″ display. The ad shows the actual sizes for the phone so you can easily compare them to your current phone before you buy.

First Ever Drop Test for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Share this:

The next-generation iPhones come out today around the world and YouTube user PhoneBuff already got his hands on both models to put them through a drop test.  The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are dropped on their side, on their back and then on their front.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus survived through the first test, but problems arose for the larger phone when being dropped on its side.  The screen shattered and started to come apart.  Both phones failed the final test (dropping on the screen), as expected. The display, though, is apparently very strong because the touchscreen appeared to continue to work after the screen was shattered.
