Share this:

2014 has truly been an amazing year and not just for Apple, but for us to.  We started out in January with a little under 2,000 total views and we are ending the year with 19,000 total views. It has been a spectacular accomplishment for our blog and I wanted to thank you for checking out our posts.  We have a list below of the top five posts for 2014. Please check them out if you haven’t already and thank you for helping the blog accomplish so much this year! Happy New Year!!

1. How to turn off recent contacts in App Switcher

In this post, we show you how to turn off those annoying contact circles in the multitasker (known by Apple as the App Switcher).

2. iPhone 6 Rumors

We were pretty sure we had Apple figured out for the iPhone 6.  We were betting on a sapphire display, two models with larger and higher resolution displays and a rear camera of up to 13MP with a front camera of 3.2MP. We were at least right about the larger displays.

3. Check out the Felt Case by FUZ Designs for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

The Felt is hands down the most creative and beautifully designed case for the iPhone 6.  FUZ Designs always makes really thought out products and this case was no different. If you haven’t seen it yet, you really need to view this post.

4. iPhone 6 Concept Based on Leaked Pictures

Whenever a new Apple product is rumored, Martin Hajek is usually there with a few concepts based on rumors. This concept, which was based on leaked schematics, likely showed a prototype design.  The schematics claimed the iPhone 6 would have a 4.7″ and 5.7″ display, a protruding camera, bezel-free display and slightly different microphone/speaker holes.

5. Rumor/News Round-Up: Microsoft Office, iPhone 6 Leaked, WWDC 14

In this post, we looked into the news that Microsoft Office was now available on the iPad, but only in a very limited form when unpaid, likely another prototype schematic for an iPhone with a 5″ display, how to hide unused apps with a glitch in iOS 7.1 and the expected announcement date for WWDC 2014.

Few Last Minute Rumors Come Out About iPhone 6 and iWatch

Share this:

The iPhone 6, iWatch and Apple’s new mobile payment system are expected to be announced at their special event tomorrow morning.  Today a few reports came out across various networks that give us more details about the next-generation phone and Apple’s first wearable product.  Here’s a quick summary of today’s rumors:

iPhone 6

China Mobile, which is the world’s largest mobile operator, leaked the full tech specs for the iPhone 6 in addition to already starting preorders.  These specs may be based on what they hope the phone will be like or more likely, what the phone actually is like.

  • A8 quad-core processor
  • 8MP rear camera, 2.1MP front camera
  • 4.7″ model: resolution of 1134 x 750 pixels with a sapphire display
  • 4.7″ model dimensions: 7mm thin, 138mm long and 67mm wide
  • waterproof and dustproof
  • colors: gold, silver and space gray
  • storage sizes: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB

In addition to China Mobile’s specs, other rumors for the phone came out today as well:

  • 4.7″ and 5.5″ iPhones will be launching at the same time on September 19th, but the larger one will be available in limited quantities (iGen.fr)
  • The smaller iPhone will be called “iPhone 6” and the larger will be “iPhone 6 Plus” (Macotakara) (remember the rumored iPhone Math from a couple of years ago?)

iWatch

  • First pictures of the watch leaked online via Reddit and give us some of the tech specs: microphone, speaker, Siri, flexible touchscreen, waterproof up to 20 feet, 4 colors and 2 sizes available, battery lasting about a day, no Lightning port (only wireless charging) and mass production to begin in January
  • The watch may also have its own App Store and apparently some major developers are already working on apps for it

Mobile Payment Plan

  • Apple may be looking to incentivize customers and businesses to use its new system by with a special rewards program (Bank Innovation)
  • They also may be using implementing a feature called tokenization into their plan, which only transmits one-time use codes for purchases instead of account numbers and other confidential information (Bank Innovation)

The Event

  • The New York Times claims that U2 will be playing even though the band has denied involvement in the special event.

iPhone 6 Final Rumor Roundup

Share this:

The iPhone 6, which is Apple’s eight-generation smartphone, is rumored to be announced at the special media event tomorrow in California.  The phone will feature a complete redesign with improvements in internal components.  In addition it will gain some new features like NFC capabilities (finally!) and two sizes of displays.  This is the final rumor roundup for the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6 has a completely new design with a slimmer body, curved edges and glass, and two sizes of displays.  The first model, which will have a 4.7″ display, measures 6.9mm thin by 138mm long by 66mm wide.  The other model will have a 5.5″ display and measures 7.1mm thin, 158mm long by 78mm wide.  Both phones also have a protruding camera, which adds .67mm to .77mm to the device.  This would make them both around the same thickness as the iPhone 5s (7.6mm). The phone features a three-piece design (similar to what the iPhone 5s has), a circular True Tone LED flash, relocated sleep/wake button, elongated volume controls and Touch ID on the Home button.

The phone will be seeing internal improvements as well:

  • A8 Processor, with M8 co-processor (dual-core running at 2.0Ghz)
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Category 4 LTE (speeds up to 150Mbps with cellular connectivity)
  • 802.11ac WiFi module (speeds up to 1Gbps with wireless connectivity)
  • NFC
  • 13MP camera with optical image stabilization (OIS)
  • resolution: 1334 x 750 pixels (326ppi, 4.7″ model) and either 2280 x 1242 (461ppi, 5.5″ model)
  • battery capacity: 1810mAh (4.7″ model) and 2915mAh (5.5″ model)
  • storage size: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, 128GB

Kuo Reports iPhone 6 to Come in 128GB Size and iPad Air 2 at Event

Share this:

At Apple’s special media event next week, we have a good idea of what they will be announcing.  We expect the redesigned iPhone 6, their new wearable device (called the “iWatch”) and the release date of iOS 8.  Earlier today we posted about some new details that Kuo and other major networks believe to be true about the smart watch due to inside sources.  In the same report, Kuo provides us with information about the storage sizes available for the iPhone 6 and another device that may make an appearance at the event.

The iPhone 6 will likely be available in the same storage sizes as the iPhone 5s, but it may also be stealing a size from the iPad Air.  Last year, the iPad Air came out in four sizes: 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.  This year’s iPhone may follow a similar pattern.  Other rumors suggested, though, that Apple may be dropping either the 16GB or 32GB size to keep it simply at three storage capacities.

Kuo goes on to report that iPhone 6 sleep/wake button may be programmable and the camera lens (nor the display) will be getting sapphire this around.  The sleep/wake button currently is programmed with two functions: long press to turn off the device (with the help of a swipe gesture) or short press to lock/wake up the device.  Kuo believes that the button will become programmable so users can open specific apps based on their length of press.  The camera lens will apparently be dropping the sapphire lens cover due to it protruding from the device.  Although sapphire is stronger then glass, it shatters quite easily and is not very flexible.  This vulnerable piece will be replaced with another material.

The report concludes by saying that iPad Air 2 may also be announced at the event.  The next-generation full-sized iPad will feature Touch ID, 2GB of RAM and a slightly thinner rear casing.  If Apple does announce the iPad at their iPhone 6 event, they will not be holding an iPad event in October and the iPad mini will likely not see any upgrades this year.

Apple’s event goes live on September 9th at 10am PDT (or 1pm EST).  They announced recently that they will be live streaming the event from their website.  To find out more information about the live streaming, check out their website.

More Proof Leaked for 5.5" iPhone 6

Share this:

There is a ton of evidence that proves the 4.7″ iPhone 6 exists, from leaked component pictures to confirmed details by inside sources. The second iPhone 6 that is supposed to have an even larger display has yet to show us much proof of its existence.  Earlier today we saw evidence of a larger battery that is presumably going to be in the 5.5″ iPhone 6, but now we have the front panel that definitively belongs to 5.5″ iPhone.  Apple Daily is responsible for these pictures and a very important detail about the phone.

New Photos Show iPhone 6 Front Panel, Logic Board, Sleep/Wake Button and More

Share this:

As the iPhone 6 gets closer to being mass produced, more parts will leak that show us details about the phone.  Over the past two days, crucial internal components were posted online in pictures that confirm many preexisting rumors.  On Wednesday, Taiwan’s AppleClub blog uploaded pictures of the iPhone 6 logic board and Feld & Volk, a luxury iPhone vendor, showed off the front panel, sleep/wake button, mute switch and SIM card tray on Thursday.

Earlier this month, I posted about pictures that showed us bare logic boards for both the 4.7″ and 5.5″ iPhone 6.  It gave us a general idea of where each component would fit on the board.  Since the above picture is of a fully-assembled logic board, we can see where each of the components actually belong.  While we can clearly see that the flash storage chip was made by Toshiba, the WiFi module and A8 processor are hidden underneath electromagnetic shielding.  It would have been great to see these two components since they are rumored to be getting significant upgrades.

The iPhone 6 is the most anticipated smartphone of 2014 and it is going to be huge, literally and figuratively.  There are a lot of rumors surrounding the phone; it is hard to pick out the truthful ones (larger display size) from the completely fake ones (heart rate monitor EarPods). Here is a comprehensive report about what we expect the iPhone 6 to be like. For comparison, I also included the iPhone 5s.

More Leaked iPhone 6 Parts: Touch ID, WiFi Module, SIM Trays and Rear Shell

Share this:

As the official iPhone 6 announcement draws closer, more parts will get leaked online due to suppliers giving genuine parts to Chinese resellers.  A new set of photos come to us from Nowhereelse.fr, which were originally found on the Japanese blog ASCII.

Touch ID for the iPhone 6

Touch ID for the iPhone 6

The first image confirms the rumor (and expectation) that the iPhone 6 will include Apple’s fingerprint sensor that was featured on the iPhone 5s. It looks awfully similar to a part we saw late last week that claimed to be the Touch ID sensor for the iPhone 6.  The location of the screws is different then the iPhone 5s, which suggests a change in the location of many internal components and redesigned exterior.

All iPhone 6 Rumors in One Place [Video]

Share this:

With all the rumors that keep coming out for the next-generation iPhone, it is difficult to focus on which ones are legitimate and which ones don’t have a chance.  An infographic came out recently on Nowhereelse.fr with the help of other Apple blogs that displayed each rumor with the likelihood that we will see it on the iPhone 6.  Not surprisingly, some of the rumors with the highest probability was the larger display, more durable Touch ID and ultra-slim design.  Nowhereelse.fr decided to simplify the graphic even further into a minute-long video (embedded below).

Based on the video above and infographic from the other day, the following rumors have greater than 75% chance and will most likely be on the iPhone 6.

  • 4.7″ screen size (100%)
  • 1704 x 960 screen resolution (75%)
  • better front facing camera (75%)
  • improved Touch ID sensor (85%)
  • over 1GB of RAM (80%)
  • ultra slim iPod touch like design (95%)

It is concluded that although we don’t know too much information about the specifics of the iPhone 6, we will likely see an iPhone with a larger display, improved internal components and a complete redesign. Other rumors are lacking evidence, so until we see a glowing Apple logo or wireless charging, these are the rumors that we have.
