Apple’s Gearing Up for the Back to School Promotion
Apple’s back to school promotion from Summer 2013.
In the end of June, Apple starts their Back to School event for students, faculty and staff of educational institutions. It typically consists of someone buying a computer or tablet with their school ID and receiving a free gift card or product with their purchase. It also runs from the end of June through early September. According to employees at Apple, the front store windows will have their displays changed overnight on June 30th. Last year’s event consisted of a $100 App Store gift card with the purchase of any Mac or $50 App Store gift card with the purchase of any iPad. Here are the latest iOS rumors from this past week:
Dummy Model for iPad Pro Surfaces
In addition to two new larger iPhones, Apple is expected to update its iPad lineup with the iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3 and a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro. This larger tablet has been rumored for a while and may have a release date in late 2014 or early 2015. Nowhereelse.fr found pictures on Weibo, a Chinese micro-blogging site, that claim to be an aluminum dummy model of the iPad Pro. There is no way to confirm if the picture is legitimate or the size of the model. The rumored size is 12.9 inches, which is high above the 9.7″ iPad Air and a little below the 13″ MacBook Air. The picture shows the Apple logo facing the correct direction for an iPad; on computers the apple’s leaf is facing on the longest side. Also, there is an indentation for a camera on the top left and microphone on the top center. The iPad Pro is rumored to feature the A8 Processor, an ultra-high definition Retina display and have the same design as the iPad Air.

A report by the reliable Mark Gurman of 9to5Mac was posted earlier about the future of iOS 8. Recent rumors suggested iOS 8 would include new apps, like Healthbook, and new features, like Maps with public transit directions. Gurman writes; however, that his inside sources say some of the new features will be pushed back until iOS 8.1.

Usually, WWDC is the place where Apple announces the next generation operating systems for mobile devices and the Mac, but this year’s keynote may be more Mac-focused. According to Gurman’s inside sources, some of the planned iOS 8 features won’t be ready in time for the keynote and will be pushed back to iOS 8.1, which may be released in late 2014 or early 2015.
