"It's Been Way Too Long": Apple Confirms October 16th Event

Yesterday, Apple sent out invitations to confirm their special media event on October 16th.  This event will be held at their campus in Cupertino at 10am PT (or 1pm EST).  They are expected to reveal the slimmer iPad Air 2, Retina iPad mini 3, release date for OS X Yosemite and a few new Macs.  The invitation, unlike last time, is quite simple and doesn’t give us too many hints.

At their event on the 16th, we expect Apple to announce the second-generation iPad Air and third-generation iPad mini.  The iPad Air 2 will have a mostly similar design, but there will be some new features to it.  Apple is planning on removing the sound/mute switch, relocating the microphone from the top of the device to next to the camera and on the side, changing the speaker grill to be more like the iPhone 6 and adding Touch ID for use with Apple Pay. For internal tech specs, we will see 2GB of RAM, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB storage options, an 8MP camera sensor and the A8 processor with M8 co-processor. It is also rumored that the Air will be available in a gold color.  It is unclear what improvements the iPad mini will be getting, but it will likely see at least Touch ID and a gold color option. The next major update to the operating system, iOS 8.1, and Apple Pay will also get release dates.

This looks very familiar to the October 2014 invitation.

After reviewing the invitation, 9to5Mac noticed that the outline of the apple is the same one Apple used when they celebrated 30 years of Mac. With this and the line “it’s been way too long”, we will definitely see Macs at the event.  9to5Mac is expecting the release date for OS X Yosemite, a fresh round of iMacs and a new 12-inch Retina MacBook.

The Apple TV, Mac mini, rumored split-screen multitasking mode for iPad and iPad Pro may also make an appearance at the event. Because it really has been way too long since the Apple TV was updated.
